Author Leigh Jack

1) Favorite curse word.

This is something my friends like to joke about because I really don't curse. There's no particular reason why I don't, but maybe it's the elementary teacher in me. That's not to say my characters don't curse, though.

2) Favorite coffee drink, coffee place or beer.

I could live on coffee. I like seasonal flavors. My all-time favorite is a pumpkin-spiced latte. As it gets colder, I'll switch over to peppermint mocha, and I love an iced caramel macchiato in the spring and summer. My Keurig and Nespresso machines get a workout daily, and I love trying local coffee shops on the weekends for a treat.

3) What project is coming next for Leigh Jack?

My next project has me excited! I've been working on it for a month or so, and I'm aiming for it to be a rom-com. However, my characters love to do their own thing and change my story lines as I write, so who knows if I add some mystery in there! I've published four books this past year, so I'm not giving myself a deadline for the next one. I've been having a great time reading a lot of other Indie author books lately.

4) I see some parallels in the writer and the main character in The Next Chapter - do you draw from your life to inspire your characters?

I love to get inspiration from my own life. I try to write by the saying, 'write what you know!' I figure that if I'm enjoying my characters and books, that's what matters most. I write to make myself happy, and I hope that my stories connect with my audience as well. Haley from The Next Chapter is like me in a lot of ways. We both love relaxing by the beach, writing, and strolling through book stores in our free time.

5) Marketing is a big thing for indie authors. Any words of advice for other authors out there marketing their books?

When I published my first novel, I didn't realize that marketing would be such a big part of my life. I was never big on social media, and I rarely posted. I've learned that to get my book seen, I needed to step out of my shell. My best advice is to post everything and anything! You never know what will be the post that takes off.

6) What is your favorite character you have created and why?

My favorite character is still Mae from Shared Hearts. It is my first published novel, and that will always hold a special place in my heart. I named Mae after my elderly neighbor growing up. Mae is a type one diabetic and an elementary teacher, just like me. Her sister is her best friend, which is something else I pulled from my life. Finally, Mae falls in love with her best friend, Pierce. Best friends to lovers will always hold a special place in my heart. I love the banter and inside jokes as they develop feelings.
